Originally scheduled to compete in Friday’s qualification round of the 74 kg wrestling competition, India’s Narsingh Yadav will not have that opportunity due to a ruling by the Center of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
On Thursday the CAS ruled in the favor of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), handing Yadav a four-year ban after failing two drug test for the substance methandienone earlier this summer. Per the CAS release Yadav argued that he was the victim of food tampering, an argument that was ultimately denied. Yadav took bronze in the 74 kg weight class at last year’s World Championships in Las Vegas and was viewed as a medal contender in Rio.
