Originally booked to compete in the 200 butterfly, Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu scratched herself from the preliminary heats in order to concentrate on Tuesday’s 200 meter IM final. Having already won gold in the 100 backstroke and 400 IM, Hosszu won her third gold medal of these Olympics with a time of 2:06.58 in the 200 IM final.
Interestingly enough, this is the sixth consecutive Olympics in which a woman has swept the 200 and 400 IM events.
Taking the silver was Great Britain’s Siobhan-Marie O’Connor with a time of 2:06.88, with Maya DiRado of the United States taking bronze with a time of 2:08.
