PYEONGCHANG, South Korea (AP) — Marcel Hirscher of Austria took a big first-run lead in the men's giant slalom on Sunday and was well positioned in his pursuit of a second gold medal at the Pyeongchang Olympics.
Hirscher was 0.63 seconds faster than Alexis Pinturault of France. The pair finished 1-2 in Alpine combined on Tuesday.
A Norwegian racer was in third position, though it wasn't Henrik Kristoffersen, who has been Hirscher's main rival this season in the World Cup.
Instead it was Leif Kristian Nestvold-Haugen, who had 0.66 to make up in the second run later in the afternoon.
