INDIANAPOLIS — Even a jinx that saw the top five gymnasts fall of the high bar on Saturday couldn’t stop Sam Mikulak.
He recovered from the mistake on his first event to win his third consecutive U.S. championship, this time by a handy margin that was all but impossible to top midway through Sunday’s competition at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Mikulak scored 183.650 over the two-day event to become the first man to win three national titles in a row since Paul Hamm in 2002-04.
He built a 2.35-point lead in the first day of competition and increased to 4.
