CHICAGO — Gwen Jorgensen didn’t need to win the grand final of the World Triathlon Series to win the season title. Her winning streak coming into the race meant she could have had a conservative race and still taken the season’s top prize. But she used a late surge in the run to take the win of both the race and the series.
Jorgensen was disappointed with her swim, coming in 11th place. Her transition was smooth, and she was part of a pack of 29 cyclists who stayed in the front throughout the race. But it was in the run where Jorgensen differentiated herself as is usually the case.
