Guo Jie, oldest surviving Olympian, dies at 103

Guo Jie, a Berlin 1936 Olympic discus thrower who was the world’s oldest Olympian, died at age 103 on Sunday, according to the IAAF.

Guo didn’t qualify for the 1936 Olympic discus final, throwing 41.13 meters in qualifying.

He later was a torch bearer during the Beijing 2008 Olympic torch relay.

In March, Swiss Hans Erni died at 106 after taking part in art competitions at the London 1948 Olympics.

In April 2014, the world’s oldest-ever Olympian, 1948 U.S. Olympic shooter Walter Walsh, died six days shy of his 107th birthday.
