Two more taekwondo events were completed Thursday, with athletes from Great Britain and Jordan taking gold.
In the women’s featherweight division, Great Britain’s Jade Jones took gold with a 16-7 victory over Spain’s Eva Calvo Gomez in the gold medal bout. For Jones this is her second consecutive Olympic gold medal in the event, and after taking silver at last year’s World Championships Calvo Gomez has an Olympic silver medal as well. Taking bronze were Egypt’s Hedaya Wahba, who is the first African to win a taekwondo medal, and Iran’s Kimia Alizadeh Zenoorin.
Japan’s Mayu Hamada, who won last year’s World Championships, lost to Wahba in the quarterfinal round.
