Gracie Gold was brought to tears by the support of the U.S. Figure Skating Championships crowd after her comeback from treatment for an eating disorder, depression and anxiety.
Gold, the two-time U.S. champion competing at nationals for the first time in three years, completed a free skate in Greensboro, N.C. She will finish outside of the medals, but that’s not the most important aspect of this week.
“I felt actually emotional before it even started because the sound the audience made,” Gold told Andrea Joyce on NBC of the ovation when she was introduced on the ice.
