Something about being at the Karolyi ranch brings out the best in Gabby Douglas.
The reigning Olympic all-around champion is headed in a “very, very good direction” after spending the last week at the ranch, Martha Karolyi said Monday. So much so that she hasn’t missed a routine on balance beam in the last four or five days.
“I’m pleased,” Karolyi said. “It certainly is a work in progress, and every day we’re doing improvements. So I’m pretty confident she will be able to function well.”
Despite struggling at both the national championships and Olympic trials, Douglas edged Ashton Locklear out for the last spot on the five-woman team because she is more versatile.
