Former player, USA Hockey executive Jim Johannson dead at 53-years-old

Longtime USA Hockey member Jim Johannson died in his sleep Sunday morning at the age of 53, USA Hockey announced Sunday in a press release.

Johannson, a Colorado Springs, Colo., resident, is the assistant executive director and general manager of the 2018 U.S. men’s Olympic hockey team. He joined USA Hockey in 2000 as manager of international activities and U.S. Olympic Committee relations.

“We are beyond shocked and profoundly saddened,” said Pat Kelleher, executive director of USA Hockey. “As accomplished as Jim was in hockey, he was the absolute best, most humble, kind and caring person you could ever hope to meet.
