A federal court upheld a collective bargaining agreement between U.S. Soccer and the U.S. Women’s National Team on Friday, preventing a strike in advance of the Rio Olympics.
In a decision issued in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman ruled that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) agreed to by the federation and the players in March 2013 includes terms of their previous CBA and is valid through the end of the year.
Coleman found that under the law, the United States Women’s National Soccer Team Players Association was represented by then general counsel and acting executive director John Langel in their negotiations with U.
