Everything you need to know about shooting

Welcome to a special Olympic edition of FTW Explains, where we break down the Olympic sports you are curious about, but don’t really understand. We won’t judge. Today we have shooting.

Shooting is a test of accuracy and skill with different kinds of guns. The sport has been a part of the Olympics for every games except for two — 1904 and 1928 — while women didn’t start shooting until 1984. In total, 15 sets of medals will be awarded for shooters in Rio, with six going to women and nine to men.
