Three high-ranking tennis players have said that they won’t be at the Olympics this year: 15th-ranked Dominic Thiem, 19th-ranked John Isner, and 23rd ranked Feliciano Lopez are among those who’ve said they’re going to sit the games out.
The Olympics take place between Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, and Isner said that the tight scheduling was a big factor in his deciding not to go. But another reason players are willing to skip the games in Rio is because no ranking points get awarded there.
Some players, like No. 1-ranked Novak Djokovic, who will be competing in Rio this year, want to change this.
