Dominican Republic diver Frandiel Gomez scored zero points on a platform dive at the Pan American Games on Sunday, contributing (or not contributing) to his last-place finish in the preliminary round.
Gomez, who finished 41st out of 46 divers in the 3m springboard at the 2013 World Championships, did not show control with his armstand before falling off the 10-meter platform on the fourth of his six dives Sunday.
His feet appeared to touch the water before his hands, which is never a good sign. CBC has extended video here.
Gomez’s effort brings to mind other failed dives, such as two Australians (including an Olympic silver medalist) at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, two Filipino divers at the Southeast Asian Games in June and actor Jason Statham at the 1990 Commonwealth Games.
