Devon Allen: Football on hold to pursue Olympic gold medal, world record

Devon Allen is turning professional in track and field and ending his college football career.

Allen, an Olympic hurdler and University of Oregon wide receiver, is ending his football career after suffering a second major knee injury in a game on Sept. 17.

He’s done competing for the Ducks altogether. Allen’s next track meet will be his first one as a professional athlete.

Allen, a 21-year-old junior, tore his left ACL and MCL and suffered meniscus damage in a non-contact injury defending a punt return.

He said it’s the same injury he suffered on the opening kickoff of the Rose Bowl on Jan.
