David Wise soars to record ski height (video)

David Wise won the first Olympic ski halfpipe title in Sochi, but he reached greater heights at an event in Italy on Friday.

The native of Reno, Nav., soared 46 feet, 7 inches, breaking the world record for highest air on a hip by more than nine feet.

“It was not a goal, but I decided to go as high as I possibly can, record or not,” Wise said in a press release. “To take that title home is definitely an experience of a lifetime.”

Wise was joined by Swiss Olympic halfpipe snowboarder Christian Haller, who broke the snowboard air record with a 37-foot height.
