WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Gregory Daniel rode away from the main field to win the U.S. road racing championship on Saturday, while Megan Guarnier won the women's race in a dramatic sprint with Coryn Rivera.
The 21-year-old Daniel stunned the rest of the field when he pulled away from a small group in the final mile. Alex Howes sprinted across the finish line for second and Travis McCabe finished third.
In the women's race, Guarnier remained patient in the peloton while multiple riders tried to get away on attacks. Her lone Boels-Dolmans teammate in the race, Evie Stevens, managed to lead her out on the uphill to the finish, and Guarnier out-sprinted Rivera for her second straight title.
