Annemiek van Vleuten has been released from the hospital, and will head back to the Netherlands on Friday.
Van Vleuten skidded off a turn and crashed hard during the women’s Olympic road race on Sunday, skidding off the course during the perilous final descent of the race.
The Dutch cyclist posted a photo of her facial injuries on social media Tuesday, having lacerations and a concussion to go with several spine fractures.
From the Associated Press:
Van Vleuten said she is staying in a hotel rather than the Olympic village to better recover, and “the concussion is the reason they want to keep me here” a couple more days.
