Already well on his way to being ranked among the greatest wrestlers in history, Cuba’s Mijain Lopez Nuñez added another accomplishment to his résumé Monday.
Lopez Nuñez took gold in the 130 kg (super heavyweight) weight class of Greco-Roman wrestling, his third consecutive Olympic gold medal, with a 6-0 victory over Turkey’s Riza Kayaalp in the gold medal match. None of Lopez Nuñez’s opponents in the tournament managed to score a point against him, with Lopez Nuñez winning his first three matches by identical scores of 3-0. In addition to his three Olympic gold medals, Lopez Nuñez is also a five-time world champion.
