Craig Sager will miss Olympics to continue leukemia treatment

NBC announced Thursday that Turner Sports sideline reporter Craig Sager will have to miss the Rio Olympics as he continues his battle with leukemia.

The network said that a third bone marrow transplant would prevent Sager from making the trip to Brazil. He began a new round of chemotherapy at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston on Wednesday.

Sager told the Houston Chronicle that he initially wanted to delay the treatment until after the Olympics, but his current condition wouldn’t allow for that possibility.

He said via the Chronicle:

“My body isn’t getting stronger, so they want to do it while I’m strong enough.
