Another popular U.S. Olympic sport is dealing with allegations of sexual misconduct by a coach against a young athlete.
Nearly 19 years after first being told about allegations of sexual misconduct by renowned Olympic coach Richard Callaghan, U.S. Figure Skating suspended Callaghan after the U.S. Center for SafeSport announced it was suspending him.
The suspensions by the two organizations are based on decades-old allegations that two people with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports were brought to SafeSport’s attention earlier this year by Callaghan’s alleged victim, Craig Maurizi.
The people requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the allegations.
