Three of the four table tennis events at the Rio Olympics have been completed, and China is now 3-for-3 when it comes to claiming the gold medal.
China took gold in the women’s team competition Tuesday night, defeating Germany by a score of three matches to none (best-of-five matches). The trio of Li Xiaoxia, Liu Shiwen and Ding Ning dropped just one set in their victory, with that coming in the final match of the competition. Ding took gold in the women’s singles competition, defeating Li in the gold medal match.
Li and Liu won their respective singles matches in straight sets, with the doubles tandem of Ding and Liu dropping the third set of their four-set victory over Shan Xiaona and Petrissa Solja.
