The suit Cathy Freeman wore when she lit the Sydney Olympic cauldron was returned to her after going missing the night of that Opening Ceremony in 2000, according to the Australian legend’s Twitter.
In December, Melbourne police took possession of an item of clothing which was believed to possibly be the body suit, emanating from an anonymous source, according to the Australian Olympic Committee.
In 2000, Freeman memorably stood for more than four minutes under the cauldron, after she lit it, due to a glitch that delayed it from rising to the top of Stadium Australia.
