President Barack Obama used yet another White House celebration of an American Stanley Cup winner to take a playful jab at Canada.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau fired back a joke of his own via Twitter.
Obama, an avid Chicago sports fan, welcomed the Chicago Blackhawks to the White House on Thursday.
The Blackhawks extended a streak last season of U.S. teams to take the Stanley Cup that dates to 1993, when the Montreal Canadiens were the last Canadian team to top the NHL.
“We’ve got a state dinner with Canada coming up, so we may just leave it right in the middle of the room, just to gloat a little bit,” Obama said to laughter, with the Cup situated to his left.
