RIO DE JANEIRO — For British gymnast Rebecca Downie, the surprise wasn’t that her sister and teammate Ellie Downie came back from a neck injury.
It was that Ellie Downie even got hurt at all.
The younger of the sisters who have helped Britain slowly make a name in the gymnastics world left her floor routine during qualifying at Rio Olympic Arena. Ellie Downie was going for a front flip to end her third tumbling pass when she came up short, landing on her neck after her legs buckled.
