Boston will not bid for the 2024 Olympics a decision that kills the beleaguered bid and ends a stretch of seven months in which the bid struggled to gain support, a person familiar with the decision told USA TODAY Sports. The person was not authorized to talk publicly.
The decision came hours after Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced that he could not support the city’s bid of the 2024 Olympic Games if that meant signing a host city contract now, as he has been asked to do by the U.S. Olympic Committee.
The Boston Globe reported the USOC and Boston 2024 officials are negotiating a statement to explain why the bid has ended.
