Bernard Lagat has failed to qualify for a World Championships for the first time since he began representing the U.S. after his switch from Kenya a decade ago.
The 40-year-old, four-time Olympian finished 10th in the 5000m final at the U.S. Championships in Eugene, Ore., on Sunday morning. Lagat is the only American man to win a World Championships 5000m medal, taking gold in 2007 and silver in 2009 and 2011.
Ryan Hill won the U.S. 5000m title in 13:50.69, followed by Ben True and Galen Rupp, a duo who also made the U.
