Pool F’s seeded duo is going to have to wait an hour or so to know its Olympic fate.
Team USA’s Jake Gibb and Casey Patterson lost to Spain’s Adrian Gavira and Pablo Herrera in Wednesday’s beach volleyball action, dropping to 1-2.
The Spaniards took the first set 21-19 before Gibb and Patterson evened things with a 21-16 win, but the third set went decisively, 15-7.
Gavira and Herrera ascend Pool F, while either Austrian pairing Alexander Huber and Robin Seidl and Qatar’s Cherif Younousse or Jefferson Pereira will pass Gibb and Patterson after their match.
