SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain (AP) — Dutch rider Bauke Mollema broke away on a downhill descent to win the one-day San Sebastian Classic on Saturday.
Tony Gallopin was second, followed by another former winner, Alejandro Valverde, in the Basque costal city.
Mollema, a Trek-Segafredo cyclist, surprised the other race leaders after catching Joaquim Rodriguez on a late uphill attack. Mollema then raced away, opening up a gap that was good enough to win the 220-kilometer (136.7-mile) race in 5 hours, 31 minutes.
Mollema was runner-up to Valverde in 2014.
