Monday the Australian women’s water polo team announced that four members of the squad were quarantined from the rest of the team due to illness. While there have been many reports about the Zika virus in the days and weeks leading up to the Rio Olympics, the athletes actually picked up the virus while training in Rome last week.
On Tuesday the delegation announced that three of the players were cleared to rejoin their teammates after staying in separate living quarters, with goalkeeper Lea Yanitsas being the lone athlete still under observation.
According to the Associated Press, Yanitsas is staying with a team doctor with the hope being that she’ll be medically cleared to join the team Wednesday.
