Ashton Eaton wins Olympic Trials decathlon, will defend Olympic title in Rio

2012 Olympic gold medalist Ashton Eaton won the men’s decathlon at the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials. Despite suffering a small tear of his quad on May 20, Eaton won the competition with a total score of 8750.

After the Day 1 of the event, Eaton led the way with 4,560 points, winning the 100m, long jump and 400m. The Eugene, Oregon native started off the second day of competition with a win in the 110m hurdles Sunday morning. In the final event, the 1500m, Eaton finished fourth with a time of 4:25.15.
