At the 2012 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, Ashton Eaton broke the world record in the decathlon. A few weeks later, he won gold in London. Eaton hasn’t slowed down, breaking the world record again at the 2015 World Championships.
Eaton lagged slightly behind during the first four out of five events contested on day one of the decathlon at the 2016 Trials. His coach told NBC that Eaton isn’t at 100 percent after his right hamstring tightened up during the day’s first event, the 100m.
Eaton was 38 points behind Jeremy Taiwo with just the 400m race to go before the decathlon halfway point.
