The eight-man field for Monday night’s 200 meter freestyle final is set, with two Americans performing well enough in their respective semifinal heats to make the cut.
Conor Dwyer and Townley Haas both advances, with Dwyer posting the third best qualifying time and Haas sixth among the eight qualifiers. Dwyer’s time of 1:45.55 was bested by China’s Sun Yang and Japan’s Kosuke Hagino, with those two having already won medals in these Olympic Games.
Hagino won gold in the 400 meter individual medley, and Yang won a silver medal in the 400 meter freestyle. Sun finished the race with a time of 1:44.
