Alistair Brownlee bested his younger brother Jonathan by six seconds to win gold in the men’s triathlon in 1:45:01 at the Olympics in Rio on Thursday.
Jonathan Brownlee took silver, and Henri Schoeman of South Africa won the bronze medal with a finish 42 seconds back of first.
Alistair becomes the first triathlete to repeat as gold medalist, while Jonathan moves up a spot on the podium after earning bronze in 2012.
American triathlete Ben Kanute had a solid swim, 17:29, before taking to the bike in 10th place. Kanute boosted his position to 7th, but slid back to 10th after transitioning to the run.
