After Russia’s Spree of Doping, a Time to Reform

Russia is an unrepentant sporting reprobate.

For years, and most likely decades, the Russians have been playing chemistry games with sport. After the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, they got caught mixing too many athletics-enhancing cocktails. Then they got caught again, and again.

Each time, Russian officials act like a wayward boyfriend, making doe eyes at international regulators and murmuring apologies — “Sorry, baby, y’know I love you the mostest.” And those regulators with the International Olympic Committee and FIFA and summer and winter sports federations shake their heads and keep inviting the Russians back.
