The ripple effects from moving the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo to next summer continue to alter the sports calendar. The world track and field championships, scheduled for Eugene, Ore., in 2021, were postponed on Wednesday until July 2022.
The move was expected, as the original dates, in August 2021, overlapped with the new dates for the Tokyo Games, which have been moved from 2020.
The world track and field championships, normally held in odd-numbered years, attract the best runners and jumpers in the world and are considered second in importance only to the Olympics.
