NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Another big name in U.S. figure skating has been sidelined with COVID-19.
Alysa Liu, a two-time national champion and one of the favorites to represent the U.S. at the Beijing Winter Olympics, withdrew from the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Friday after testing positive for COVID-19, the national governing body announced in a statement.
The news came less than 24 hours after Liu, 16, skated in the short program, finishing third behind Mariah Bell and Karen Chen. The women's competition was scheduled to continue with the free skate Friday night. The three-woman Olympic team will be announced Saturday.
