Kyle Battle hit a walk-off single to cap a four-run ninth inning Sunday, lifting Old Dominion to a 4-3 win over Rutgers in a nonconference baseball series finale at the Bud Metheny Complex.
The walk-off win was the first since April 15 of last season for the Monarchs (4-7), who avoided a three-game sweep and snapped a three-game losing streak. Battle also had the winning hit in that 2017 game, a 3-2 win over Louisiana Tech.
ODU trailed Rutgers (5-5) 3-0 heading into the ninth. Will Morgan sparked the rally with a two-run triple and Matt Schwarz tied it on an RBI single.
