Ford Proctor’s two-run double sparked a four-run third inning and Blake Fox pitched 7.2 strong innings as Rice defeated Old Dominion 6-2 in the second game of their three-game Conference USA series Saturday at Reckling Park in Houston.
The Monarchs (18-6, 3-2) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Nick Lustrino reached on an error that scored Chris Livers (First Colonial) and Jason McMurray. ODU nearly scored a third run, but Lustrino was thrown out at home plate on a single by Connor Myers.
Rice (13-9, 4-1) answered with a run in the bottom of the second on Dane Myers’ solo homer before their outburst in the third.
