The Baltimore Orioles selected Oregon State catcher Adley Rutschman with the No. 1 pick in the 2019 MLB draft Monday night.
He is the fifth catcher to be taken first overall, the most recent being Joe Mauer in 2001.
A switch-hitter with defensive skill and power potential, Rutschman batted .411/.575/.751 for the Beavers in 2019 with 17 home runs in 185 at-bats and twice as many walks as strikeouts.
