One big inning gives Monarchs a big lift at Charlotte

Old Dominion had one good inning Saturday at Charlotte’s Hayes Stadium. That was plenty.

The Monarchs sent 12 batters to the plate in the second inning, scoring all eight of their runs in an 8-5 victory over the 49ers, clinching the Conference USA baseball series. ODU won Friday's opener 8-6.

Turner Bishop and Kurt Sinnen, both Kellam graduates, had RBI doubles; Nick Walker (Kellam), Jason McMurray and Chris Livers (First Colonial) had run-scoring singles; and Connor Myers had a sacrifice fly in the second for ODU (29-17, 12-11).

The Monarchs’ other runs came on a throwing error and a wild pitch.
