George Mason scored two second-half goals Thursday night to defeat Old Dominion 2-1 in a nonconference women’s soccer match, handing the Monarchs their first loss of the season.
Gaby Bentley’s tally in the 40th minute gave ODU a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. The goal was assisted by Carla Morich and Natalie Johnson. The Monarchs outshot the Patriots 10-3 in the first half.
GMU’s Emma Van Der Vorst converted on a penalty kick to even the match. The goal was the first allowed by ODU in its past 400 minutes. The Patriots pulled ahead 27 minutes later on Sarah Chontosh’s goal.
