Kyle Battle’s three-run double fueled a five-run seventh inning Tuesday as Old Dominion rolled past Norfolk State 9-1 in a nonconference baseball game at the Bud Metheny Complex.
The game was called after seven innings due to darkness and a power outage at ODU.
The Spartans scored their lone run on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Robinson in the first inning.
The Monarchs tied it on Tallwood High grad Culver Lamb’s sacrifice fly in the bottom half, then took a 3-1 lead on Erik Stock’s two-run double in the sixth.
Hunter Gregory (1-0), a graduate of Hickory High, picked up the win, giving up one earned run on six hits and striking out seven over six innings.
