Old Dominion will join the Big East to play women's lacrosse beginning in 2019, the league announced Wednesday.
The Lady Monarchs have been playing as an affiliate member of the Atlantic Sun conference since 2015 and won the conference title and their first NCAA berth in 2016. ODU will continue to compete under the A-SUN for the coming season before making the switch.
“The Big East is going to be very challenging, and I’m excited for our team to rise up and accept the challenge,” ODU coach Heather Holt said.
The Monarchs would join a lacrosse league whose membership currently consists of Butler, Cincinnati, Denver, Florida, Georgetown, Marquette, Temple, Connecticut, Vanderbilt, and Villanova.
