Jared Young’s RBI double in the third inning gave No. 25 Old Dominion all the runs it would need and five Monarchs pitchers combined to shut down VCU in a 4-1 victory Wednesday at the Bud Metheny Complex.
ODU (33-15) swept the season series after defeating the Rams 5-4 in 10 innings on Feb. 28 in Richmond.
Kyle Beam got the Monarchs on the board with a two-out solo homer in the third. After Kyle Battle singled, Young followed with his run-scoring double to make it 2-0. Young was the only Monarch to finish with multiple hits, going 2 for 4.
