Kyle Beam led off the 10th inning with a solo home run Saturday, giving Old Dominion a 5-4 victory over West Virginia in the opener of a non-conference baseball doubleheader at Monongalia County Ballpark.
The Mountaineers won the nightcap 6-5 on a two-run single in the bottom of the 12th. ODU pulled ahead in the top half on a bases-loaded walk.
The Monarchs led 4-1 after 8½ innings in Game 1, but the Mountaineers tied it with three runs in the bottom of ninth. West Virginia scored on Nick Hartman’s wild pitch before Cole Austin’s two-run double made it 4-4.
