ODU rallies to beat defending national champion U.Va. in baseball

Old Dominion scored four runs in the eighth and another in the ninth Wednesday to rally past No. 20 Virginia 5-4 in a non-conference baseball game at Davenport Field.

The Monarchs (19-7) picked up their fourth consecutive win over Virginia, the defending national champion.

ODU trailed 3-0 entering the eighth.

Nick Lustrino led off with a single to right field went to third on pinch-hitter Chris Livers’ (First Colonial High) double down the left field line. Pinch-hitter Kyle Beam brought them home with a single up the middle.

Connor Myers reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced to third after two fielding errors on Zach Rutherford’s (Western Branch) fielder’s choice.
