ODU Falls to Sandlin, No. 11 USM in Series Opener

NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion came out on the wrong end of a Friday evening pitchers' duel at the Bud Metheny Complex, falling to No. 11 Southern Miss, 2-0, in the opening game of this weekend's three-game set.

Six Old Dominion (12-27, 5-14 C-USA) pitchers held Southern Miss (30-11, 14-4 C-USA), the league's top offensive team, to just two runs on nine hits, but the Monarchs were unable to solve Nick Sandlin, who tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout for the Golden Eagles. Sandlin is now 6-0 with a 1.00 ERA on the year.

On the mound for ODU, Luke Krantz (4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K) gave the Monarchs a strong start for the second consecutive Friday.
