A Norfolk State official is about to receive a prestigious honor from the school across town.
Spartans AD Marty Miller will receive the Bud Metheny Award at Old Dominion’s annual baseball banquet next month, NSU announced Monday.
The award, given to an individual who has made significant contributions to baseball in Hampton Roads, has been handed out each year since 1978.
Miller, a Danville native, spent more than 30 seasons as the head coach of the Spartans’ baseball team, from 1973-2005. He finished with a 718-543-3 record and won 17 CIAA championships.
A member of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, Miller was named CIAA Coach of the Year 15 times while becoming the winningest coach in CIAA history.
