Max Wilschrey’s first-half goal was enough Friday night as the Old Dominion men’s soccer team opened the season with a 1-0 victory over Radford at the ODU Soccer Complex.
In the 19th minute, Wilschrey headed in Hans Kroschwitz’s cross.
Mertcan Akar made three saves for the Monarchs.
For much of the second half, the Highlanders were a man down after Myles York earned his second yellow card of the game – an automatic ejection.
ODU hosts Georgia Southern at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Eagles opened their season with a 2-0 triumph Friday night at Virginia Commonwealth.
